What We Offer

We recognise that every individual is unique and what is helpful and works for each person varies. Sometimes the things that led to your difficulties are different to the things that keep those difficulties going.  Some people feel it is important to develop an understanding of how their difficulties developed whereas others prefer to keep a focus on the here and now.  We will work with you in the way that you feel most comfortable with. We also don’t believe that a diagnosis is necessary for an individual to feel better.  Whilst diagnosis can be helpful for some individuals, for many others improvements can be made without any diagnosis being necessary.  Individuals with the same diagnosis can have very different experiences on a day to day basis. We will work with you on the difficulties that you are experiencing in a way that is meaningful to you.  Whether this be having difficulties getting up and going in the morning, worries about your work, relationship difficulties, feeling overwhelmed by your emotions, specific fears or addictions; whatever you are struggling with, we are happy to discuss this with you.

We are trained in and use a variety of approaches, many of which are compatible with each other. We will listen to your difficulties and your hopes for treatment.  From this we will develop a plan which may include components of different approaches based on what is most likely to be effective for you.  Treatment models that we are likely to make us of include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) based approaches and Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR):

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): CBT based approaches explore the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviour in response to situations.  Unfortunately, we can’t always change the situations that we are in however, sometimes the way in which we think about situations can add to our own distress.  Furthermore, sometimes the more we try to stop thinking and feeling particular ways, the worse things can feel.  CBT based approaches offer a range of techniques and skills that can help to break negative cycles that we may find ourselves stuck in.  This may include changing our ways of thinking, changing the relationship that we have with our thoughts, developing our ability to tolerate and manage difficult emotions and developing skills to help us to more effectively communicate our needs to others, particularly during times of conflict and stress.   

Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR): Sometimes when people have had extremely distressing and life changing events occur they may experience difficulties that they struggle to move forwards from.  For example, feeling overwhelmed by emotions one moment, feeling numb the next, experiencing flashbacks and intrusive memories and constantly feeling on edge.  Developed specifically to help people who have been affected by traumatic experiences, EMDR enables us to remember what has happened without all of the difficult and painful experiences that have become associated with it.  Increasingly EMDR is being now used to treat a wide range of difficulties including anxiety, depression, low self esteem, bereavement and addictions.   

What You Can Expect:

We aim to respond to any queries within 24 hours.  We will ask you a few questions regarding the kind of service you are looking for in order for us to establish if we may be able to help.  We will offer an initial meeting if appropriate. The date, time and location would be mutually agreed. After an initial consultation we will offer an opinion and some suggested next steps.

Therapeutic services are costed at £100 per 50 minute session.  For many individuals a longer initial meeting is preferred and this can be agreed in advance at your request.  Sessions are paid in advance. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours notice are non refundable.
